A man in his 50s has been raped in a Delhi hotel and taken to hospital, police said, as police and activists appealed for people to share their stories of sexual assault.
Police said they were investigating the case of a man who was raped in the Hotel Savar hotel in Delhi’s Rohini district, on Friday night.
The hotel, which houses a number of women’s shelters, has been the scene of frequent sexual assault and harassment, particularly in recent years, according to activists.
The victim has not been identified, but the hotel is popular with young women in the area.
The man, who was staying with his family, has told police that he was assaulted by a group of men, who forced him to strip, bathe and shower, and forced him into a bed.
Police have appealed to people to come forward if they witnessed any sexual assault in the hotel, and said they would arrest the perpetrators.
The rape case is one of several involving hotels across the country, which police are trying to track down.
“We are looking for all the hotel staff and all the guests who were in the room.
If you have seen anything, please tell us,” said a senior police officer.
Police officers said they had registered a case of rape at the hotel against a guest on Friday evening, but that the victim had yet to file a complaint.
Police, activists and others have said hotels in Delhi have been the epicentre of many sexual assaults and harassment cases.
The city, a hub of the international drug trade, has seen a rise in cases of sexual harassment and assault.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police has urged hotel owners to “take immediate action” against people who assault women in hotels.
