article The Republic newspaper, the newspaper of Long Island’s capital, Nassau County, is trying to turn its online presence into a destination for the Internet.
The site is running a crowdfunding campaign to get a new logo, and is hoping to raise $200,000.
A website for the campaign, called Long Island Daily News, is also running in a similar vein, and has raised $500,000 as well.
The Republic is not alone in its efforts to build its online audience, with several other major newspapers including the New York Post, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and San Jose Mercury News also attempting to reach new audiences.
The goal of these efforts, of course, is to make it easy for readers to stay up to date on local and national events, and to keep up with the news.
The Republic has yet to make any significant announcements about its plans, but a press release from the site said that it would be launching “in a couple of weeks.”
